Getting the most out of StarLeaf

Getting the most out of StarLeaf

by Darren Pitt on November 14, 2014

We hope you love using StarLeaf cloud video conferencing & calling as much as we do. But are you getting the very best out of your StarLeaf and did you know they are constantly adding new features and improving performance? To make StarLeaf work even harder for you, take a look at StarLeaf tips below.

Connect with anyone – for free!

Did you know you can invite unlimited guests, including business associates, friends and family, to use our Breeze software for free?

Your StarLeaf system can call and be called by any other professional video system, like Microsoft Lync, Cisco, Polycom, Lifesize, and so on? This level of interoperability is at the heart of everything we do.

However, in true StarLeaf style, we go further than any other provider by allowing you to easily reach anyone, whether they have a video endpoint or not. This is where the StarLeaf Guest Invite feature comes into its own – it is the easiest way for you to reach out to colleagues, business associates, family and friends.

Guest invites come at no extra cost to you or your organization, they are unlimited, so you can see and collaborate with as many people as you like.

Here’s how it works:

On the StarLeaf touchscreen and Breeze software there is an ‘invite’ button. Press or click this and you are asked for the email address of the person you want to meet on video. A personal invitation is immediately sent in your name to your guest.

Your personal invitation provides clear instructions and offers StarLeaf Breeze for free – this is really useful if the person you wish to meet doesn’t have access to any professional video software or equipment. However, if they do, and they want to use existing equipment, your invitation also includes clear dialing instructions.

Of course, your invitees can also call anyone else who uses StarLeaf so you can keep everyone you know connected, for free, whether they are inside your organization or just family and friends that you want to stay in touch with. Once your invitee has followed the simple download instructions, you’ll automatically be added to each other’s personal contacts and your guests will have an instant speed dial to get in touch with you.

Your invitees will not be added to your company directory and, for privacy and security, individual email addresses are not visible in your administrator’s portal.

All of your calls to guests benefit from our end-to-end encryption, which means that you never have to worry about privacy.

StarLeaf is easy-to-use and requires no expert technical knowledge to get started, so you can talk to anyone you like at anytime and enjoy crystal clear video and audio wherever you are.

Great new features in latest StarLeaf release

We make regular automatic updates to your StarLeaf products and services so you can rest assured that you’re always running the latest version. StarLeaf have now released StarLeaf Cloud 2.1, highlights include:

  • Microsoft Lync integration
  • Conference Layouts now enabled
  • Out of hours power saving

The latest release of the StarLeaf Cloud offers great new features including:

Microsoft Lync Integration for Conferencing

Up until now, Microsoft Lync users have been virtually stranded on their own communications island, with no way to meet or connect to anyone using a standards-based video conferencing system. That really means that Lync users only get to go desktop-to-desktop and cannot join a broad video conference. Well we’ve stopped all that, and have made a great step forward in interoperability, now you can mix it up and invite anyone that uses Microsoft Lync, alongside anyone that uses any manufacturer’s H.323 or SIP equipment, to join you for a scheduled conference on the StarLeaf Cloud.

Conference Layouts

For your scheduled conferences you can now choose a layout that best suits your meeting needs. You can either go for our default setting, which gives everyone in the conference equal screen space, or, you can choose the large speaker option. Upon selection this automatically places the current speaker into a large pane and, of course, is voice-activated, so whoever is speaking will appear in the large pane.

Out Of Hours Power Saving

From 7pm to 7am local time, your StarLeaf touchscreen enters a power-saving mode, and will automatically dim the backlight while displaying the time on a screensaver. To exit the timesaver mode, simply press anywhere on the touchscreen.
